Community Service Project
Focus II
Our team collected items such as bubbles, coloring books, crayons, markers, stickers, etc. from Central Office staff to put in goodie bags to deliver to children at the Blair E. Batson Hospital. A donation box was placed in each suite and the suite that donated the most items was treated to a free lunch. The lunch was prepared and served by our team. Team members traveled to the hospital on November 10 to deliver goodie bags to the children.
Each team member also donated 10 toys for a total of 60 toys for the activity rooms at the hospital. We delivered the toys with the goodie bags. With monetary donations, we purchased other items from the Blair E. Batson Wish List. Our team went back to the hospital on November 18 to do an arts and crafts project with the children. We split into three groups and made pinecone turkeys. With small children, we created a turkey out of their handprint and also a turkey coloring sheet.
More than 700 items and more than $200 were donated by Central Office staff. Our team, “Rainbow of Cheer,” created a logo that was printed on the goodie bags, collection boxes and team t-shirts. The t-shirts were in a variety of “rainbow” colors. Our team decided to continue “Rainbow of Cheer” as an annual project of the Central Office Employee and Incentive and Recognition Committee (EIRC). Each year, EIRC will select a different non-profit agency to help.
Community Service Project
Focus III
Our team participated in Relay for Life in Pearl River County at Pearl River Community College. Many of our team members assisted in setting up various booths and signage on the property during the early morning hours of the event. Additionally, team members worked at the registration table by assisting runners to sign in for the 5 k run held the morning of the event. Team members also assisted in setting up a water site for runners at the end of the 5 k route. Team members distributed water to the runners and assisted in taking down the water site following this activity. Nearly $500 dollars were raised during the 5 k event to assist with cancer research.
Team members spent time with survivors at the survivor tent assisting them however needed. Members went to the various booths to see if there were donations/luminaries to be set up in the luminary display. Members also assisted in filling luminary bags with sand and arranging luminaries around the walk path.
Another team member, participated in the Relay for Life walk in Simpson County held at Mendenhall High School. He assisted with setting up the stage and sound system for the live performances that night. He also worked at the sign in booth as well as various other booths on that night. He was uncertain of the amount of money raised on that night, but it was a tremendous amount of support for this organization to help raise money for cancer research and awareness.
